I didn’t look like all the other girls, and I felt like I was different from everyone. Growing up I believed that being beautiful looked a certain way: It was long hair, big boobs, beautiful makeup and long eyelashes. It was a toned body, a flat tummy and a gorgeous smile.

For a while, I thought I had to change how I looked in order to feel beautiful. Then I grew up. And I realized something very important: Becoming a beautiful person is a magical process that starts from within.

You don’t have to change how you look in order to be beautiful. You need to change how you FEEL.

Because you already are beautiful. And if you don’t know it yet, I am here to give you the secret tips for learning how to believe in your gorgeous self.

Our False Perception of Beauty

For some reason people believe that you can’t feel beautiful until you have the perfect look — until you are the skinniest, the prettiest, the most successful person you can possibly be.  The truth is we have a backwards approach and perspective to attaining beauty. Feeling beautiful is a “feeling” after all… so wouldn’t it make more sense to define that feeling based on emotion and not physical characteristics?

So how do we change that?

How do we start redefining our beautiful and actually start feeling beautiful?

It’s simple. Just follow these steps for learning how to feel beautiful and start thinking differently about your gorgeous self.

How to Feel Beautiful What is Perfection

cutehearttealwipMake your “beautiful roadmap.”

This is something I tell all my clients to do. For some reason, many of us have this complicated roadmap for what we believe we need to achieve in order to feel beautiful. We stop defining beauty by emotional traits, and instead, start thinking strictly in the physical form. In order to change that and learn how to feel beautiful and fulfilled by your looks, your first step is to map out all things you believe you need to achieve right now in order to feel gorgeous. When you have your list, you’ll see how crazy complicated it is (I’m betting because most of my clients lists are complicated.) What do you believe is the key to feeling beautiful? Is it long legs, clear skin and a gorgeous slim body? Get clear about all the important physical factors you believe make a beautiful person.

Recognize how you formed those beliefs.

Once you recognize exactly what you believe is your “definition” of beauty, your next step is to figure out WHY you believe those things. Go through your list of all the physical traits you identify with being beautiful, and figure out the core reasons why you feel that way. What past experiences have you had that forced this limiting belief into your subconscious? In order to learn how to feel beautiful, we need to be able to challenge our current beliefs and develop new ones. The truth is, so many of us believe beauty is a certain way because we have had negative experiences that coined these ideas in our minds. It’s up to us to change it. Write out all the reasons why you believe each of these physical traits you listed are important. Were you bullied for being chubby? Did someone make a comment about your skin growing up? Did a boy make fun of you for having a flat chest? Get real with yourself. And be as specific as possible.

Discover the emotions behind those beliefs.

Ok, so now it’s time to figure out what emotions you associate with your beautiful roadmap. See that list you created of all those physical things you believe are the key secrets for how to be beautiful? What do each of those things mean to you emotionally? Does a thin body mean a sense of being controlled and connected to yourself? Do you think long hair is feminine and that’s why it is beautiful? Understanding what emotions each of those physical traits brings up is super important – it helps you understand the emotional road map for learning how to feel beautiful. So for each physical trait, cross it out and redefine it with an emotional trait that you most connect it with. (There are some tips in the worksheet below)

Create a new strategy for how to feel beautiful.

Okay coolness.. Now comes my favorite part for learning how to feel beautiful: The moment when you start to actually CHANGE your view on what it means! Now that you have all those sexy ass emotions listed out on a piece of paper, it’s time to discover new extra ways to create that feeling in your life. So you thought long hair was feminine ? What other ways can you feel feminine? If you thought feeling thin gave you a sense of strength or empowerment, what other things can you do each day to feel that way? Get my point? See where this is going?

Every time I write about self-confidence, I think about that awesome Demi Lovato song. “What’s wrong with being confident? Whats wrong, what’s wrong, what’s wrong with being confident?” Well I’m here to tell you what’s wrong with being confident. It’s hard to be. That’s what’s wrong with it. Why can’t it be easier?! Demi Lovato is a super sexy goddess who embraces her curvy figure and loves herself. And we should all feel that way. But figuring out how to stay confident while losing weight is like, the biggest challenge ever. So let’s talk about it so we can figure out how to stay confident while losing weight and feel awesome about ourselves like Demi Lovato says we should.

How to Stay Confident While Losing Weight

Most of us try to lose weight so we can feel better about ourselves. We want to change our bodies so we can grow our self-esteem and boost our “feel good vibes,” am I right? But if you’re on that weight-loss journey hoping that you’ll feel confident later on when your 5 pounds lighter or a few sizes smaller, you are failing yourself, and you are failing my girl-love Demi.

You can’t wait to feel confident. If you wait, it will never happen. You need to feel confident now.

Are you the girl who is weighting to wear that sexy outfit in her closet because she needs to lose five more pounds?

Are you putting off going on that date because you aren’t exactly as fit as you want to be?

Are you avoiding the mirror in the morning or wearing lose clothes because you don’t believe you look good?

Stop it. Stop it right now.

If I could see you through the computer screen I would punch you.

Just kidding, I love you.

But seriously stop.

If you aren’t confident now, you will never be confident. Practice self love now, so you can find that “I can do it” confidence that you need to push you towards your goals!

How to Stay Confident While Losing Weight

Step One: Stop Waiting. Your first step in learning how to be confident while losing weight is to stop PUTTING OFF THINGS. If you want to feel more beautiful, do things that make you feel beautiful! Dress nice. Go out and socialize. Do your makeup. Style your hair. Shave those legs for christ-sake!

Do whatever it is you would normally do if you were your ideal perfect body weight.

Step Two: Embrace The Qualities that Make You Beautiful Now. You need to be confident in who you are. You need to feel beautiful so that losing weight is just an added bonus to your wonderful confident self. If you are constantly relying on losing weight as the one thing to make you feel good, you will be failing yourself for the rest of your life.

To embrace your sexy goddess self, try journaling all the ways you are beautiful. Make a list of all the reasons you deserve to feel good about yourself. Embrace that list and keep it in a place where you will see it often.

Final Step: How to Stay Confident While Losing Weight

Step Three: Stay Motivated on Your Journey. I have a ton of practices that I use for boosting my self confidence when I am trying to lose weight. But the one thing that really keeps me motivated on my weight-loss journey is journaling. I make a list of all the reasons I deserve this goal I want, and I dig deep and figure out exactly how this goal will enhance my life. I don’t just focus on the number I see on the scale.

I get crystal clear and laser-focused on the feelings I am trying to achieve, the way my future will look and the changes that will occur in my life when I reach that goal. When you envision the future, anything is possible.

3 Steps to Building Self-Esteem

Building self-esteem isn’t always easy. Okay, most of the time it’s the hardest thing ever, am I right? But today I am sharing three effective strategies for building self esteem so that you can learn how to do it in a simple easy way.

Three Simple Steps to Building Self-Esteem

Step One: Stop striving for perfection. This is  a real serious first step that you must take in order to build your self worth and grow your confidence. The first step to building self-esteem is really ditching that “all or nothing” approach to feeling good about yourself. You need to recognize that you aren’t perfect. You will never be perfect. Perfect is not an option or a goal. Because Perfection doesn’t exist. So give it up. Once you do, you’ll quickly notice a shift in your outlook.

Have you ever gotten down on yourself because you didn’t achieve a goal you wanted to? Did you ever feel embarrassed by things you’ve done in your life? Do you feel like maybe your past decisions were failures?  That’s the “perfection obsession” talking. Ditch it. Let it go. Say goodbye.

The truth is no matter what you have been through in your life, you can overcome it.  The road to happiness and self-esteem is never perfect, so don’t ever try to make it perfect. Don’t believe? Step Two: Develop solid self-love practices. This is so important. Developing some sort of self love routine to incorporate into your daily schedule is super important for living a confident life and building self-esteem. Start a gratitude journal if you haven’t already, or try using daily journal prompts for self reflection to help in building self-esteem.

If journaling isn’t your thing, try practicing self love mantras. Find a few self-love phrases that make you feel empowered and receipt them every morning. You can also practice positive self talk by taking a few moments each morning to compliment yourself. Whatever works for you girl. Do it!

Step Three: Educate yourself and look at building self-esteem as a life journey. In order to grow confidence and change how you feel about yourself, you need to prioritize it. You need to look at growing your confidence as a true Priority in your life. If you don’t invest the time and energy (and sometimes the money) into growing self-worth and building self-esteem, you will never do it. So educate yourself, and invest your time into developing the tools you need to grow who you are and what you love about yourself.

Okay, so let’s talk about gratitude for a minute. Because learning how to feel grateful is such an important part of feeling happy, confident and proud of your life. So let me show you how with today’s post on gratitude journal prompts and the free worksheet for you! But first…read this:

What Is Gratitude- Exactly?

In case you need a reminder, on what gratitude is before you jump into the gratitude journal prompts, here’s what you need to know:

Gratitude is that awesome emotion of appreciation. It’s what keeps you feeling happy about what you have in your life instead of feeling frustrated about what you don’t have yet.

-It’s the emotion that warms your heart when  someone surprises you with a present.
-It’s that feeling you get after you have a romantic date with a boyfriend.
-It’s the way your soul lights up after someone gives you a compliment.

But the truth is you need to learn how to feel grateful on your own. You can’t just rely on what the people do for you. You need to make gratitude happen on your own. Get what I’m sayin’ girl? And you need to practice with gratitude journal prompts.

Like right now, for example, I got that feel-good-vibe like crazy yo. Because last night I had the most amazing dream that Justin Bieber was my boyfriend. And he was super sexy. YUP. Thank you awesome REM Cycle sleep and gratitude-vibes. Because this morning I feel happy, positive, and grateful. And even though it’s because of the smallest silliest thing, it doesn’t matter: I feel good. And that’s a big deal!

What Happens When You Aren’t Grateful?

If I wasn’t embracing that gratitude feeling right now, I’m pretty sure this is what I’d be feeling instead:

-Stressed (because I have a lot of work to do today)
-Disappointed (because I didn’t wake up early enough to start my work)
-Angry (because I should have been more responsible and woken up on time)
-Sad (because  I didn’t reach my Monday goal of going out for a run)
But do I feel that way? No! Because I am grateful! 
I WAS HAVING JUSTIN BIEBER SEXY DREAMS GUYS!

See… when you truly embrace gratitude, it is actually hard to feel negative about whatever’s going on in our life.

You can’t feel angry if you feel grateful. You can’t feel sad if you feel grateful.

Practicing gratitude is the quickest easiest way to start feeling more wonderful about who you are and the life you live.

Why You Need Gratitude Journal Prompts –

Sometimes you can’t just start feeling grateful out of the blue… especially if you aren’t used to it.

I remember when my little sister had her prom. She got her makeup done, her hair styled, and her nails did. She looked like a total princess. Seriously, she was beautiful. She was feeling so happy and so confident, but the minute she put on her dress a switch went off in her brain and BOOM- she felt horrible. She was so obsessed with her stomach and how it looked in her tight fitting gown. Suddenly she felt really ugly and really sad.

It was literally like a switch went off in her brain and completely changed how she was feeling in an instant.

Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever done a bunch of things to feel great, but then one small thing brings you down?

Gratitude journal prompts will help you re-train your brain so that you can switch from a sad state to a happy and grateful state in a quick short amount of time.

Gratitude Journal Prompt Tips:

If you are used to feeling negative and unappreciative, it’s going to be much easier to feel that way. And you’re gonna need some help changing that mindset practice. So I created these gratitude journal prompts – so you can learn how to  feel more grateful more frequently.

But if you are new to gratitude journaling, read this post on how to start a gratitude journal. Here are some tips for when you start:

-Ask yourself positive questions whenever you feel stuck or in a rut. Positive questions will help you retrain your brain to think differently about yourself and about your life. Make sure those questions are emotionally charged and phrased in a way that you are forced to think of the positive.

If you are feeling lonely because you don’t have a boyfriend for example, take out your gratitude journal, and write down all the reasons you should be grateful you DON’T have a boyfriend right now. “What positive opportunities does being single right now offer you?”

If you are feeling unbeautiful because you haven’t reached a weight-loss goal or you struggle with acne, why not try to make a list of all the ways you should feel good about your exterior image? “What about your beauty are you appreciative of right now?”
